In our State of California, prior to transfer of ownership of a residential property, there are a few mandatory requirements and retrofits: Smoke Detector Installation, Water Heater Bracing and the newest of all, Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detectors.
As of July 1st 2011, all single family homes in Camarillo must be equipped with a carbon monoxide detector. According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, carbon monoxide produced by non-automotive consumer products, claims 170 lives in the United States each year. This deadly, colorless, and odorless gas can have different effects from person to person. Depending on age and length of exposure, CO poisoning may cause:
Lower Level of Exposure: headaches, dizziness, disorientation, nausea, fatigue
Moderate Level of Exposure: angina, impaired vision, and reduced brain function
Higher Level of Exposure: can be fatal

Placement Of Carbon Monoxide Detectors in Your Camarillo Home:
Since CO is lighter than air, it is recommended that you instal a Carbon Monoxide Detector approximately 5-6 feet off the floor. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that one CO alarm be installed in the hallway outside the bedrooms in each separate sleeping area of the home. If you own a 2 story home, a CO detector is recommended for each floor in your house. Do Not install the Co detector over a fireplace or a flame producing appliance.
Please follow the CO detector’s manufactures instructions for additional information on the installation and placement of your CO Alarm.
Carbon Monoxide Detectors can be purchased at home improvements stores in the City of Camarillo.
